- while browsing through the Internet I just took a chance on searching for any contribution on chit funds. To my utmost surprise I found scores of entries on chit funds. Chits or a derivative of chits are functional in many countries across the globe. Even developed countries like USA have credit societies similar to chits. And USA has highly mature banking and financial markets. While this is certainly fascinating, it also prompts us to conclude that chits have a socio-psychological utility as a financial instrument and it appeals to people from all walks of life, all over the world. 10th Annual Blood Donation Camp A Blood Donation Camp was organised on the 21st September 2003 at the Basant Lok Commercial Complex (Priya Cinema Complex), Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. This was the tenth in a series sponsored by Chandra Lakshmi on this date. The first such camp was organised in 1994 with the support of Loins Club (Delhi Greater ) at the Allahabad Bank Building, Parliament Street. The inspiration for this camp came from our very own Mr. Ramesh Guglani, who motivated us to participate in this humanitarian cause. His involvement with our camps has carried on right through to this day. The camp this year was inaugurated in the presence of the District Governor of Rotary, Rtn. Rajesh Batra and President of the Rotary Club of Delhi, Rtn. Sanjeev Rai Mehra and other distinguished Rotary guests. The last six annual camps sponsored by us have been in association with the Rotary Club of Delhi (Main) from 1998 to the last camp in 2003. The association and help provided by the Rotary Club of Delhi over all these years has been invaluable. We are thankful to The Rotary Club of Delhi for providing us with this opportunity of associating in such noble projects. The camp was inaugurated by Mrs. Shakuntla Bhambhani. The inauguration was also attended by the Principal and staff of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, the President of the Basant Lok Association Mr. Vimal Jetha and executive member Mr. Kriplani, members of the Rock Garden Club, Patel Nagar apart from family friends and subscribers of Chandra Lakshmi. The blood collected in all these camps has crossed the magic figure of 100 units. This year the collection was 105 units. The entire staff of Chandra Lakshmi under the co-ordination of Mr. A.C. Kapoor, participated in the organization of the Camp and for motivating Donors for the same. The Camp this year was also actively supported by the efforts of the Principal, staff and students of Chinmaya Vidyalaya. The school planned several initiatives to get the staff and parents to come and donate blood. They also participated in spreading awareness about the Camp. The Principal , Mrs. Indira Bhardwaj and the staff and students deserve our special thanks. The Blood collection agency was the Rotary Blood Bank and dedicated team of Doctors and technicians led by Dr. Ms. Deepika didi a wonderful job at the Camp. Mrs. Shakuntla Bhambhani, on behalf of Chandra Lakshmi presented a cheque of Rs. 5,100/- to the Rotary Blood Bank. Blood was collected in the comfort of an AC mobile Blood Collection Vehicle. The Camp was on from 1030 hrs to 1700 hrs. Several subscribers visited the Camp and donated blood or helped in the administration of the Camp. We thank all of you for your good wishes and support that you have lent in this noble cause. "Money" Magazine Covers Chit Funds The "Money" magazine carried out an article on chit funds in their March issue this year. The article was more of a primer and covered very basic aspects of chit funds. It carried an interview and photograph of one of our most respected subscribers Mr. Vijay Dewan is the proprietor of the very popular film magazine "Filmkaliyan" and has been associated with Chandra Lakshmi for nearly a quarter of a century. He is a very dynamic entrepreneur and a leader within his industry. His kind words about our company and his knowledge about chit funds deserve a special mention. We thank him for his support and acknowledgement of quality of our services. The article also mentioned briefly about Mr. Kamal Bhambhani and Chandra Lakshmi as being one of the leading chit company in north India. We appreciate their mentioning and at the same time we feel that "Money" magazine should have devoted more depth to the article. We hope that they will follow up this article with more researched and detailed analysis on a regular basis. The chit fund is an important constituent of the financial business in our country. On an estimate more than Rs. 10,000 crore worth of business is transacted in this trade each year. And there are studies that many times more than this is in the unreported, undisclosed needs better coverage so that the general public is educated and takes more informed decisions. The First 100 months Series Drawing to a Close- Chandra Lakshmi has always been associated with innovating in the field of chits. Many variations into the conventional chit schemes to add value to chit products and to transform them into special purpose vehicles that satisfy some focused need. For many of these innovations, Chandra Lakshmi possesses Intellectual Property Rights. One such initiative was a scheme for children. The "Children Benefit Chit Linked Scheme" was started in September 1995. The series bearing Registration Number 2/158/161/95-96 terminates on 28th December 2003. The 100 month journey started as a mere experiment. The idea was born while searching for a solution to create a specially chit scheme for the children, incorporating many revolutionary features and improvements to serve the exact needs of children. The excitement and challenge involved in doing a series of this nature is immense. We promise to bring you the complete story of this challenge in the coming issue of Lakshmi Patrika by the time this series would have run its last leg. Lakshmi Patrika --- 1994-2004 Enters its 10 year of Circulation It has always been a virtue with Chandra Lakshmi to provide a seamless channel for communication with our subscribers. We have taken many initiatives in this direction from time to time. We were one of the first to launch our own dedicated website www.chitfund.com in the year 1996. One such initiative was the commencing of a regular Newsletter that could provide continuous updates on information that was relevant to our field of operation. Lakshmi Patrika was born in the third quarter of 1994. The first issue carried information about the happenings during that period, which included among other things the appearance of Mr. Kamal Bhambhani in the program "Kanooni Salah" on Doordarshan, the launch of our first Rs. 1,50,000/- series in the fortnightly format and the special scheme launched with it. It also covered the first blood donation camp organised by Chandra Lakshmi. Lakshmi Patrika has been the vehicle to educate you about the many new feature packed and value added chit schemes launched by us from time to time. We have tried to cover articles on many facets of chits as well as profiling some of our regular subscribers. We have covered the activities of the All India Chit Funds Association along with the changing Government Regulations and Legislation where ever relevant. There have been special issues, like the one on our 50th anniversary of Independence on the 15th August 1997. The subscribers hand book was presented with one of the issues. We have made every effort to make Lakshmi Patrika more meaningful and informative for you. We welcome your suggestions and appreciate your participation in making Lakshmi Patrika a more effective tools in building our relationship. Once again wishing you prosperity, Kamal Bhambhani |
